“Clean Hospital, Healthy Lives”

Provincial Hospital Lahan in Siraha once faced serious health risks due to unmanaged medical waste scattered across its premises. With technical support from UNICEF, the hospital implemented a climate-resilient WASH project that introduced color-coded dustbins for proper waste segregation—green for biodegradable, blue for non-biodegradable, and red for hazardous waste. A WASH FIT Committee was formed to oversee the process, and awareness materials educated staff, patients, and visitors. The hospital environment has since transformed, with systematic waste collection ensuring clean hallways and safer surroundings. Hygiene and patient care quality have improved significantly. Today, the hospital stands as a model for effective healthcare waste management in Madhesh Province.
