Opening Doors: How Chay-Ya is Making Disability Support in Nepal More Inclusive and Accessible
In Nepal, people with disabilities often face major obstacles in accessing education, healthcare, and social inclusion—challenges made worse by stigma, limited resources, and geographic isolation. To address these issues, Chay-Ya, a nonprofit organization, has launched inclusive programs that empower individuals with disabilities through specialized education, therapy, vocational training, and community integration. Disability Learning Centers (DLCs) in regions like Dang, Rautahat, Mugu, and Kailali provide tailored academic and life skills support. Chay-Ya also offers physical, occupational, and speech therapy, reaching 178 children and constructing five disability centers. An innovative motoric park further enhances mobility through therapeutic play, and government collaboration has enabled scholarships to remove financial barriers.
Chay-Ya’s approach fosters independence, reduces stigma, and promotes inclusion through education, skill-building, and awareness campaigns. The organization not only supports individuals but also advocates for inclusive policies at a systemic level. Its efforts have led to meaningful transformation in the lives of children and families, setting a strong example for disability inclusion in Nepal. Looking ahead, expanding services to remote areas and deepening community engagement will be key to ensuring no one is left behind. Through its holistic work, Chay-Ya is creating a more inclusive and equitable society for all.
