Binu Gharti Magar Transforms Farming Practices in Dang, Wins Best Farmers Award

Binu Gharti Magar, a 50-year-old resident of Mulkot in Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City, Dang, has significantly improved her livelihood and inspired her community through innovative and sustainable farming. Formerly dependent on low-yield cereal crops, she shifted to off-season vegetable farming with support from Chay-Ya Nepal, receiving training in modern agricultural techniques, including organic practices and Integrated Pest Management (IPM).

By investing in plastic tunnels, Binu began year-round vegetable production, earning NPR 43,151 in one season from 1,543 kg of produce. She also integrated livestock into her farm to promote organic manure use.

Her success has made her a mentor within the Mulkot Agriculture Cooperative and a role model for local farmers. In recognition of her achievements, she was honored with the Best Farmers Award on October 26, 2024. Binu’s story exemplifies how innovation and dedication can drive food security, economic improvement, and women’s empowerment in rural Nepal.
