Kalikot: One-Day Orientation Conducted on Medical Waste Management for Health Institutions

Kalikot: A one-day orientation program on medical waste management has been conducted for health institutions. Chay-Ya Nepal organized the session specifically for staff working at District Hospital Kalikot, to build their capacity in managing medical waste produced within the hospital premises.

According to Min Bahadur Rawal, Karnali Province Manager of Chay-Ya Nepal, the objective of the program was to reduce the risks associated with improper handling of hazardous health care waste and to strengthen the participants’ knowledge of proper collection, treatment, and disposal procedures.

Speaking at the program, Rabindra Sejuwal, Head of the Health Section of Khandachakra Municipality, expressed the municipality’s commitment to assist in transporting the waste from the hospital to designated disposal sites. He mentioned that this support will now make waste management within the hospital compound much easier.

Babita Thakur, Nursing Officer at District Hospital Kalikot, highlighted the significant health risks posed by improper disposal of hospital waste. She emphasized that sustainable management of such waste depends heavily on the hospital staff and called on all employees to actively engage in waste management practices.
