Permanent School Building Handed Over to Gauri Shankar Secondary School in Rajpur-7, Bhainsahi

Dang – A new three-room permanent school building has been constructed and handed over to Gauri Shankar Secondary School, located at Bhainsahi border point in Ward No. 7 of Rajpur Rural Municipality, with support from Chay-Ya Nepal.

The school building had collapsed due to a flood that struck on Shrawan 11, 2080 BS (July 27, 2023). With limited infrastructure and the collapse of its building, the school faced severe difficulties in continuing classes. During this time, Cha-Ya Nepal, an organization actively working in remote areas to support communities lacking access to education and health services, stepped forward and took responsibility for constructing a new permanent school building.

The school informed that the foundation stone for the new building was laid on Poush 29, 2080 BS (January 13, 2024), almost six months after the previous building was damaged.

The construction was carried out under the leadership of Chay-Ya Nepal, with financial and technical collaboration from Land Tirol, Namaste Foundation, Friends for Nepal-HDA, Rajpur Rural Municipality, and Chay-Ya Austria. The three-room school building was officially inaugurated and handed over on Monday.

Although the construction work had started with the aim of completing it before the beginning of the academic session 2077 BS (2020 AD), the COVID-19 pandemic caused delays in its completion and inauguration.

With the permission of Rajpur Rural Municipality and in collaboration with the school, Chay-Ya Nepal completed the construction with an investment of approximately NPR 2.5 million (25 lakhs).

The building handover ceremony was attended by:

• Bhim Bahadur Khadka, Ward Chairperson of Ward No. 7
• Tank Bik, Principal of the school
• Kamal Thapa, Executive Director of Chay-Ya Nepal
• Social worker and intellectual Amrit Khadka, among others.

Before the construction, students had no suitable place to sit and study. With the completion of the building, this challenge has now been resolved, making education more accessible and comfortable for children.

Chay-Ya Nepal has been actively investing in educational infrastructure and working to uplift the educational standards of children from economically disadvantaged communities. Headquartered in Kathmandu, the organization has been working for many years in remote areas of Nepal in the fields of education and health, according to its Executive Director, Kamal Thapa.
